Bible Insight:

DOES GOD LIKE THAT WE REPEAT THE SAME PRAYER FORMULA OVER AND OVER?

One of the ways the church uses to pray to God is the repetition prayer.  But it is only one of the ways that the church prays.  There are others like: meditation, in silence, reading the bible, writing to God, in contact with nature, praising, giving thanks, and so on.

Since the Old Testament, we see David and the Israelites praying the Psalms constantly. Jesus himself taught us to relate to God with the prayer of the Our Father (Luke 11:2-4).

There are 2 main prayers that we repeat constantly.  They are the rosary and the mass. Both of them came from the bible. Mass or breaking of bread in the book of the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2:46).  However, the mass is more than a prayer, it is a sacrament.  It is the center of our faith.

I want to focus on the rosary prayer. Most our people of faith like to pray the rosary and feel the intercession of Mary, mother of Jesus.  They also feel that they keep their faith in God and the connection with the church, and this is right.

Some reasons to pray the rosary: The Our Father and the Hail Mary prayers come from the bible.  When we pray the rosary, we are connected to many centuries of faith and love towards Mary. Also, the apparitions of Mary have given some kind of spiritual power to it. The rosary is Christ centric because praise to Jesus and recognize the virtues of Mary. Repetitious prayer keeps our mind focused on God.

Jesus does not like our repetitive prayer when it is empty of faith (Mt. 6:7).  Jesus himself used to pray repetitious prayer in the synagogues (Luke 4:16).
